Do you spend a lot of time thinking about your favorite anime characters?
Do you love roleplaying online as your favorite characters? Do you make up your own characters or insert yourself alongside your favorite characters?
Do you imagine going into the show? Do you imagine meeting the anime and manga characters that you love?
Do you feel empty and unsatisfied after finishing an anime or manga?
When you realize you've finished the last episode or read the last volume, does it depress you?
Do you constantly seek new anime and new shows to fill this void?
Have you ever thought you might be obsessed with a show or particular character?
Have your thoughts ever become dark when thinking about anime or manga?
Do the dark images in anime and manga ever bother you?
Have you ever heard voices?
Have you ever spent a lot of time imagining yourself in fictional worlds?
Do you ever have strange lustful thoughts related to anime and manga?
Have you had suicidal thoughts and felt empty?
Have you ever felt a presence that makes you nervous?
Do you feel that you are alone and isolated from everyone?
Do you think any of this is related to anime and manga?
Many men and women of all ages defend the media they watch by claiming that because it isn't real, it doesn't matter. Even if you do not believe in the God that created you, why not peek at His word, the Bible, and see if this is true?
Does God not care what you watch? Does God not care what entertains you? Does your imagination and what tickles it not matter to God?
God's inspired word, the Bible, says:
"I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me."
- Psalm 101:3
God does care what you watch.
"Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."
- Romans 1:32
God does care what entertains you.
".... for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth;"
- Genesis 8:21
And it does matter to God what dwells in your imagination. In fact, God covered the surface of the earth with mighty flood waters, because not only were the actions of mankind evil, but:
"And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually."
- Genesis 6:5
Since God does care what you watch for entertainment, then you should know what God considers evil. If He destroyed all of mankind, save for righteous Noah and his family, because of endlessly wicked imaginations, then it is in your best interest to know what evil is.
Evil in the eyes of God is known as sin. Sin is evil, sin is iniquity, sin is wickedness, sin is death, and sin is what separates us from God. Sin is disobedience against God and His commandments:
"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law."
- 1 John 3:4
Sin is the reason that the majority of men and women who have ever lived will end up in hell:
"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:"
- Matthew 7:13
Now you know how serious sin is!
Since sin is so serious, God has made it so you don't have to read the entire Bible to find out about it. There are parts of God's word that list many different sins. You may think you don't need to worry about sins displayed in entertainment because what you watch doesn't affect you. You may think that simply watching sinful acts for enjoyment and not committing them yourself surely can't be so wicked that God would cast you into hell.
But what does God's word say?
"And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:"
- Mark 9:27
What you enjoy looking at with your eyes is clearly important to God. If you love to behold sin, then it is sin that you love. This means that it is important to know whether or not anime celebrates sin.
Do the characters in anime glorify God? Do they live righteous lives? Do even the heroic characters in anime glorify sin?
How do the characters that you watch for entertainment, enjoyment, and pleasure in anime compare to the sins listed in God's word?
Take a look at a list of sins from the Bible and find out for yourself:
"Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these;
and such like:
of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past,
THAT THEY WHICH DO SUCH THINGS SHALL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD."
-Galatians 5:19-21
Fictional though they may be, these characters fall woefully short of God's glory, and in fact, do not glorify God at all. Rather, they glorify the sins of the world. Anime is filled with violence, bloodshed, false religions, witchcraft, and sexual immodesty of all kinds. If you love and enjoy to watch anime, then God sees in your heart that you love violence, bloodshed, false religions, witchcraft, and sexual immodesty of all kinds:
"for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."
- 1 Samuel 16:7
The violent and sexual images of anime and manga are spiritually dark and badly affect your soul. In the Bible, the Son of God stated:
"The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness."
- Luke 11:34
When your eyes behold spiritually dark images, it fills your body with darkness. Anime and manga characters fall so short of holiness, that they celebrate darkness.
Falling short of the glory of God is not fictional as these characters are. The fact is, all of us do, as stated in God's word:
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"
- Romans 3:23
This is bad news, as because we have all sinned, we are all deserving of God's judgment. We all deserve death and hell for our terrible sins, no matter whether we commit them with our own hands or derive pleasure from watching others commit them. This is bad news for most people, as they won't turn from their sins and will continue in them until they die and face God's judgment. As the first half of a verse from God's word says:
"For the wages of sin is death;"
It doesn't have to only be bad news for you, however - the good news is that there is a second half to this verse:
"... but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
- Romans 6:23
It was Jesus Christ Himself who warned of the broad way to destruction and that even the eyes of a man or woman can commit sin while He was here on earth. It is also through Jesus Christ, the Son of God, that this sin and all others can be washed away. Jesus Christ faced death in order to bare your sins:
"Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed."
- 1 Peter 2:24
He faced the cross on Calvary in order to take the judgment we all deserve for our sins. He was buried, raised from the dead, and ascended into heaven to grant us eternal life. Through Him, God forgives us and washes away our sins with the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. No matter how sinful, wicked, or perverse the anime, manga, or hentai you have indulged in are, if you repent and turn toward the Lord Jesus Christ, God will wipe it away - never to be remembered again:
"I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins."
- Isaiah 43:25
This includes every sinful piece of media you have ever watched or listened to, and any other sins you yourself have physically commited. Once you have accepted Jesus as your Saviour, you no longer have to fill the emptiness in your soul with sinful media - for Jesus shall send the Holy Ghost to fill you:
"Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost."
- Romans 15:13
And just like God lists the sins of the flesh in the Bible for us, the fruits of the Holy Ghost are listed for us as well:
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
- Galatians 5:22-23
These are the things which glorify God, and give peace to all those who believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. Pray to God in the name of Jesus Christ to save you, and He shall:
"And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
- Acts 2:21
Pray like this:
Dear God, I realize I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I need your forgiveness and I know that your Son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins. I want to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour. Amen.
If you were sincere in your prayer, and believe on Jesus Christ as your Saviour with all your heart, then God shall send you the gift of His Holy Spirit and you shall be born again. You will begin a new relationship with God as your Father - and He will never forsake you or abandon you.
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
- Romans 12:2
If you answered yes to certain questions at the beginning concerning hearing voices, feeling a presence, constantly imagining yourself in fictional worlds, and suicidal thoughts, you may have opened yourself up to unclean spirits. Indulging in dark media can open you up to demonic influences. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that you are delivered from the possession and oppression of demons.
